Carter becomes No. 7
Cole Carter has kept a pretty good secret. But on Wednesday night, he went public with that secret and announced he was a commitment for Mississippi State's Class of 2012.Since mid-January, Caledonia (Miss.) offensive lineman
"It felt good to go public with it tonight," said the 6-foot-6 and 280-pound Carter, who also received interest from Alabama, Tennessee and Louisiana-Lafayette. "I actually committed in mid-January but I talked to my dad tonight and he said I should go ahead and go public with it.
"I told Coach Dan Mullen at their junior day about my decision and he was happy for me. Coach John Hevesy was also excited and so were all the coaches that were there."
And with his news now public, Carter officially becomes the Bulldogs' seventh commitment for 2012 and the fifth in-state commitment for Mullen and his staff.
"It feels good to know I have a chance to be part of a program on the rise," said Carter. "And have the opportunity to be part of what they are building there. I want our class to help us stay going in the right direction and get the program where it needs to be and be another big piece of the final puzzle."
Carter had the chance to see his future surroundings last week at Mississippi State's camp. Although he is playing tight end this season for Caledonia, he said it was good to get the opportunity to face a lot of talented defensive linemen.
"I felt pretty good at camp and it was good to see all that talent on hand," said Carter. "I got to go 1-on-1 with a lot of good prospects and it was a good learning and building process. It's pretty exciting to see that I could be teammates with some of those guys and we want to get all the talent we can playing for Mississippi State."
