East Troy knocks off cream of the crop in VB

Volleyball
Burlington in Division 1, Catholic Memorial in D-2, Oostburg in D-3 and Catholic Central in D-4 topped the first Wisconsin Volleyball Coaches Association poll of the year. Here are the polls for all four classes.

Division 1
1. Burlington, 2. Divine Savior Holy Angels, 3. Menomonee Falls, 4. West Bend East, 5. Westosha Central, 6. Pius XI, 7. Germantown, 8. Middleton and Muskego, 10. Neenah.
Honorable mention: Brookfield Central, Brookfield East, Manitowoc Lincoln, Marshfield, Nicolet, Sun Prairie, Verona, Watertown

Division 2

Swimming
The Wisconsin Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association computerized girls team polls, which are based on the top 30 individual standings, show Middleton ahead of Waukesha South-Mukwonago in the Division 1 standings, while Shorewood leads Sauk Prairie and McFarland in D-2.

In the D-1 individual rankings, Waukesha South-Mukwonago junior Abby Jagfeld tops the 200-meter freestyle event with a 1:52.36, which is an all-state clocking in a category in which the top five currently have met 2011-12 state qualifying times. Jagfeld also leads the 100 free (52.83) in a field in which the top four competitors have bested the qualifying time.

Nelson shines

In Division 2, Shorewood junior Kristin Malone tops the charts in three events: the 50 free at 24.03, which is an all-state level; the 100 free at 52.71, an honorable mention all-state mark; and the 200 free at 1:53.61, which also is an honorable mention clocking.

Malone's senior teammate Ellen Stello tops the field in the 200 individual medley at an honorable mention clip of 2:08.47 and the 500 free at 5:05.66, one spot ahead of Malone - both are honorable mention efforts.

McFarland freshman Rina Krupsky still leads the 100 butterfly (58.68) and 100 backstroke (59.33), both state qualifying standards.

Cross country
The latest ratings from the Wisconsin Cross Country Coaches Association in five of the six divisions, with the Darlington boys the only team to hang onto their top spot. Here are the rankings in the three divisions for boys and girls.

The Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association boys polls again are dominated by teams from southeastern Wisconsin. Milwaukee Marquette and Catholic Memorial remained atop the Division 1 and 2 standings, respectively, while Racine Prairie jumped two spots in the D-3 ratings.

Madison Edgewood, the defending Division 2 state champion, vaulted ahead of 2011 D-1 titlist Homestead to take over the top spot in the most recent rankings by the Wisconsin Golf Coaches Association poll, while Green Bay Notre Dame dropped three spots to fourth. Here are the top 10 teams and honorable mention squads.
